The proposal
Expected or surprise!
It was a surprise! It was in lockdown 2021, I was in the middle of baking something in the morning and John told me to sit down…next thing I knew he was down on one knee!!
Choosing THE dress …
I knew I wanted to wear an Indian bridal outfit; so I went to lots of different shops but with no luck. However, the shop I got it from is the best and the outfit was the first one I tried on! Nothing else compared!
What was your inspiration/theme for the big day?
We are from two different cultures, so it was really important that we showcased both; all of my family wore Indian and John’s family wore traditional English wedding outfits. We had some Punjabi on the wedding menus and some bhangra in the evening!
Why did you choose Bredenbury Court Barns?
As we got engaged during lockdown, we had lots of online viewings. However, when we saw Bredenbury, even from the online call, we knew it was the one! The fact that it’s in a beautiful setting, no corkage and exclusive use really was appealing. We also really liked the fact that we could tailor the menu to be whatever we wanted and Jenkinson’s were so accommodating; the team at Bredenbury too are so lovely!
Tell us all the details!
I walked down the aisle to ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’, by Elvis Presley, played by the amazing Capriccio string quartet. We had two readings: Captain Correli’s Manolin and I wanna be yours by John Cooper Clarke – we live in Manchester so that was a personal nod to us!
We were so lucky with the weather so we had an ice-cream cart during the drinks reception to keep our guests cool! I love flowers, so we had a flower wall and lots of flower meadows which we used both in the Orangery and in the Oak Barn. We had a four-tiered naked style cake, which was amazing and all of our favourite flavours!
What was on the menu?
Starter: Lemon glazed chicken served with an asian salsa and mint raita
Main: Handmade chicken and leek pie/cheese and onion pie, with red onion gravy and buttered mash – John is originally from Wigan so it was a nod to Wigan pies!
Dessert: Warm chocolate fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream, served with dry ice for added effect!
First Dance Song?
KCi and Jojo – All my life; if you watch Parks and Recreation, you’ll know why!
Your favourite moment of the day?
John: The speeches
Raveen: Walking down the aisle, I was so nervous and emotional but happy at the same time
A word of advice for future couples?
It’s all worth it at the end, just keep pushing through the stressier moments of wedmin!
